ICC hosted its first golf marathon on September 11th, 2009 at the Deer Creek Golf Academy’s nine hole course in Ajax. Despite the projected forecast of rain, participants remained devoted to the cause, and we had a solid turn out under clear blue skies. Twelve participants enthusiastically committed to playing over 9hrs of golf, rightly fitting to the slogan of the event-‘golf till you drop’. After pausing only at noon for lunch, golfers quickly returned to the tees to maximize their fundraising opportunity. All participants were sponsored by friends or family members who pledged to give them either a specified amount or sponsor them for an amount ranging from $0.25 to $ 5.00 for every hole of golf played. Golfers were able to determine the outcome of their own fundraising efforts by motivating themselves to ‘golf till they dropped. ICC awarded prizes for the following achievements: most holes played (Wayne De Boer and Andrew Hodgson), most number of sponsorships (Bob Armitage), and most money raised (Terry Gray). All in all it was a great and fun-filled day! We estimate that after we collect all donations we will have raised over $ 8,000.00. Thanks again to all golfers for coming out and putting forth a stellar effort on the course to raise funds for ICC. Your efforts will make a world of difference in the life of many children and their families in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We look forward to seeing you again and having an even greater event next year!
