Haiti Violence Update

Haiti held national elections on November 29. Leading up to the election, unrest and violence made headlines around the world. Late on December 7, the country’s election officials announced a runoff between two candidates, Mirlande Manigat and Jude Celestin.

After this announcement, more violence and protests broke out throughout Haiti, particularly in Port-au-Prince, where gunshots can be heard in the street and the smoke from burning tires fill the air. The violence continued into the day on December 8.

American Airlines has cancelled all flights in and out of Haiti for the time being. At Grace Children’s Hospital, the out-patient clinic was closed and the hospital locked down. At this time, all staff and patients are safe, and the situation is being monitored very closely by hospital administrators.

Please continue your prayers for peace in Haiti; we will update our supporters as the situation changes.
