Shelter2Home Transitional Structure Approved as Housing for Displaced ICC Staff

The R&R Department has recently approved the Shelter2Home design for transitional housing. The unique design of these shelters allows for the addition of an unlimited number of units in order to create larger living spaces, and eventually structures that displaced ICC staff can call their homes. The frames of these units are made of galvanized steel and the walls are made of proprietary metalized film that deflects 97% of the sun’s heat.

Huge Donation Made Toward the Reconstruction of Grace Children’s Hospital

National Hockey League player, Georges Laraque formerly of the Montreal Canadians, and Dan Hamhuist of the Nashville Predators visited the grounds of Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince on Wednesday June 8th to survey the damages caused by the earthquake. They played hockey with kids from the children’s ward in the hospital car park.

A Note of Thanks To All For Supporting Our Haiti Earthquake Relief Efforts

On May 19th the Niagara Falls ICC Chapter hosted their annual Lasagna Dinner. Over 200 people attended the dinner, organized by longstanding board members Liz Froese and Lino Mori.  Attendees raised over $ 7,000 dollars toward Haiti Earthquake Relief.

In addition, ICC Canada has received a tremendous outpouring of support from numerous organizations. We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to our ICC Chapters and all persons, churches, schools and organizations that have donated their precious resources toward earthquake relief since January.

The R&R Department--working hard to re-build GCH and surrounding communities

ICC’s Relief and Reconstruction (R&R) Department is implementing and overseing all reconstruction and relief efforts at Grace Children’s Hospital (GCH) and assisting the communities it services.  Currently, the department is working on a project entitled "Grace Children’s Hospital and lower Delmas Post Quake Emergency Health Project." This project is comprised of many activities that are geared toward reconstructing the hospital, servicing inpatients/outpatients as well as assisting homeless ICC staff and 60,000 displaced people living in 13 slums around GCH.

Relief and Reconstruction Office developed to realize future visions for Grace Children's Hospital

This picture captured in February, shows ICC Haiti staff and volunteers sorting and distributing food and supplies. The Relief and Reconstruction Office will also help in the coordination of many future volunteer efforts.

Latest Update- Large Inpatient Tent Installed At Grace Children's Hospital

ICC Canada's National Director, Peter Montgomery, along with US National Director, Keith Mumma, were recently in Haiti where they were joined by Dr. Rudy Magloire, National Director of ICC Haiti, and Trudy Bekker, National Director of ICC Dominican Republic (FCID).  The Directors gathered together to assess the damages caused by the earthquake to Grace Children's Hospital.

The latest reports from Port au Prince, after the devasating earthquake just weeks ago, suggest the struggle to rehabilitate the people of that city is going to be a battle of monumental proportions. Simply clearing away the tons of rubble is a task that would make many a civil engineer lose sleep over.

ICC is currently putting together a 12 month plan to assist people in the best way possible. Though the plan is not complete yet, we know that it will include some more permanent shelters - beside sheets, tarps and tents.

Annual St. Jacob's Plant Sale Grows More Funds for ICC!

International Child Care’s eagerly anticipated Plant Sale has been running since 1990.  It is one of several major fundraisers organized by dedicated ICC supporters and volunteers. The 3-day plant sale took place on the Saturday’s of May 30th, June 6th and June 13th at the Antique Market Parking lot on the St. Jacob’s Market grounds. Buyers chose from a wide selection of plants.

ICC's First Golf Marathon gets a "Hole in One"

ICC hosted its first golf marathon on September 11th, 2009 at the Deer Creek Golf Academy’s nine hole course in Ajax.  Despite the projected forecast of rain, participants remained devoted to the cause, and we had a solid turn out under clear blue skies.   Twelve participants enthusiastically committed to playing over 9hrs of golf, rightly fitting to the slogan of the event-‘golf till you drop’.
